SF Women Capture Five of the Top Ten at Acworth

Team Sport Factory women had a great showing at the Acworth Women’s Sprint Triathlon on 8/8/10.   The 400 yard swim, 13 mile bike, and 5k run is a local favorite because of the well run event, large amateur field, and the chocolate fountain at the finish!  The day started out well, as the conditions were near perfect despite the water being close to 90 degrees.

With the large number of women participating, there were several waves which put all the athletes on the course at different times.   After all the racers were finished, Team Sport Factory had captured five of the top ten overall placements as well as two age group wins, proving their consistency as these ladies have owned the top 10 in nearly every local race so far this season.   Leading the team were two of our elite team members:  Kris Kester finishing 2nd overall and Kat Tindol in 4th overall/1st masters.  Following close behind her were Katie June in 5th overall/1st AG 16-19, Tracy Palmer 8th overall/1st AG 30-34, and Jennifer Lesser 9th overall/ 1st AG 35-39.  Of the nearly 600 athletes, Tracy Palmer clocked the fastest swim time of the day, with Jennifer Lesser just one second behind her!  Both Kat Tindol and Jennifer Lesser are coached by Matt Russ. Tracy Palmer is coached by Amy Kloner, and Katie June is coached by Holly Marzetti.

Our newest team members also had a strong showing:  Emily Bridges, one of Sam Morgan’s coached athletes and only 15 years old, placed 1st in her age group (15 and under).  Lauren Vandiver also won her AG (20-24).  It was Lauren’s FIRST triathlon and she is also new team member also coached by Sam Morgan. We expect to see more of these young stars on the podium as they progress in the sport!

Congratulations to all of Team Sport Factory women for representing the team so well in Acworth, especially Judith Garrard who staged her comeback race after breaking her collar bone earlier this year.  The season is not over yet, as most of our team is gearing up for Age Group Nationals in Tuscaloosa, AL in September.  Stay tuned!
