Tell us about your race (limit 500 words)…: Went down to the swamp for the Waycross duathlon (2mi, 13mi, 2mi) last weekend and had a good one. The best part was my two year old made the trip with me and cheered her daddy on to the win. The course went through the S/F five times so there was plenty of opportunity to be inspired by my little girl.
The run was the big unknown for me. Dr. Sadri of First choice health care has been done an excellent job patching me together this summer but with run training is at a minimum you never know. As I came through the first half mile in just over five min pace I knew it was going to be a good day. Into T1 I was second, to a relay team (I did note his running shorts and figured it had to be a relay) It was time to put my head down and go after it, I wanted to be first across that line for my little girl. About two miles into the bike I tucked in behind the lead vehicle and never looked back. The ride went well as I held a 25+ average. Now it was time for the big test, could I hold it together for the second run?? Well just over 6 min pace it was and that was good enough to hold off the hard charging relay team. Crossing the line first was extra sweet with my little girl looking on.
Next up in age group nationals and I hope to be able to represent the sport factory well. On a side note swamp bugs are scare, thought they were going to dent my hood or crack my windshield as I drove in, crazy!! I highly recommend this race to anyone, great crowd and a beautiful place to race.
See you on the road…
