Tell us about your race (limit 500 words)…: This was overall a great race. It’s my first season racing, so I know I have a lot to learn – but for the most part everything went smoothly. It was the first year for the event but pulled in 650 participants. I was very proud to bring home a win for my first race representing Sport Factory!

My goal was to be first out of the water, since swimming is my strength. I was happy that I was able to do this, but was passed in T1. I definitely see transitions as a huge area of opportunity for me.

I felt great on the bike. Matt helped me the day before make some adjustments on my bike and I think it really gave me the extra edge physically and mentally. I caught up to the girl that passed me in T1 within the first two miles and held the 1st place position for the women the rest of the race. I still only have a few races under my belt, so biking is a constant learning process for me. I tried not to over think the bike too much, and just let the momentum of the race push me. Since the women’s swim wave started after all the men I had a lot of people in front of me to chase down. I am incredibly competitive so this really works to my advantage.

I knew I couldn’t take my lead for granted going into the run. I was aware that I only had about a minute or two to spare. The run was two loops and it took me a good mile before I really felt my groove. Overall, I felt stronger coming off the bike into the run than earlier races this season. I focused on my arm position, something that Matt had worked with me on the day before and really just pushed the hills.

This event was a great experience and I was happy to see I made the cut for the local paper today in my Sport Factory kit: http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/083010/new_702021970.shtml
