Tell us about your race (limit 500 words)…: I wasn’t really looking forward to this race after getting dehydrated last year and walking a lot of the run course. Then I didn’t exactly listen to my coach’s training plan for the week, so I wasn’t setting myself up for a very good race this year either. But race day ended up being okay. I came out of the swim 45 seconds faster than last year, even though it felt like there was much less of a current than usual. When I got to transition someone had thrown my stuff all over the place and I had to find my helmet and shoes…and I never did find my sunglasses. I biked 4 minutes faster than last year and passed a lot of people. Like Hannah said, it seemed like the race officials were paying special attention to the junior athletes on the bike course. At one point they rode behind me for a mile and a half like they were daring me to put one toe out of line. I was really glad to be off the bike and penalty-free. My run was quite a bit slower than I expected, but still good enough for fifth including the pros. I was shocked to get first overall because this is such a competitive race with a lot of fast women. And thanks to Crystal, Michelle, and Tracy for helping me out when I got sick after the race…I guess I still haven’t figured out my nutrition plan yet.
I am glad to hear that although you had an outstanding race, you recognize that there are still areas of opportunity to address for the next one. I pointed out to a few or our team members that although you are very young, you have been at this sport for ten years already and that you worked very, very hard and consistently to achieve the level of success you have. Congratulations!
Congratulations on a great performance, Katie!
Be sure to tell the body markers to make your “17″ extra large and prominent, so that you keep pissing off the old ladies!!
Getting sick after the race is no big deal because hey… the race is over now.
One of my athletes said to me, “I throw up after ever race”, to which I replied, “and the problem is?”
