Gold is Golden in 1st Du

Laura Gold has been running for years.  She is married to an avid and competitive cyclist, Shannon Wrege, and had been lured by Shannon to the bike on occasion, but never took it seriously.  In the Spring of 2010,  however, she decided to step it up and compete in duathlons.  She sought out the guidance of Sport Factory coach and pro athlete, Amy Kloner.

“Laura knew how to push herself on the run, but we needed to discover that on the bike.  She would not be able to run to her potential in a duathlon if she did not develop the bike fitness.   She may be new to the bike, but I am continually impressed by her level of focus and dedication — in every workout.  She is laser focused and extremely accurate, determined to nail the prescribed workout without fail.  It is paying off,” says her coach.

Laura and Amy decided on the Savannah Sprint Duathlon as her first attempt at multisport. Consisting of a 5k run, a 40k bike, and a 5k run on a flat and windy course, Laura went out strong yet controlled, sticking to a pacing strategy that she had practiced and nailed in her training.

In her first duathlon ever, Gold finished 1st Overall Female and only behind one man!

Gold’s future in the sport is as bright as she wants it to be.  We are very proud of her success, but also her desire to work hard and tap into her potential.  Well done, Laura!

I agree she beat me by 3 seconds this past weekend at the Tri the parks Duathlon.
she passed me at the very end and kept a really fast/consistent pase while running, I couldn’t catch back up.

    Great job
