Tell us about your race (limit 500 words)…: I have to write my race report before my mom decides to write it for me like she always does…

I was really well-prepared going into this race. I’ve been doing a lot of faster runs after longer bike workouts, and my pacing had been very consistent. I was expecting at least a run PR since I ran my fastest 10k off the bike at this race last year.

Unfortunately, the weather had different plans for my race. I swam almost 3.5 minutes faster than last year, despite water temperatures being recorded at 89.5 degrees (yeah, 89.5). Like most other people, I got overheated on the swim and paid for it the rest of the race. I had a decent bike split that was a little faster than last year, but by the time I got to the run I felt really sick. I ended up walking the aid stations and one of the bigger hills…not even close to the 6:40 pace I’d been running during training. There is almost no shade on this run course, since it’s an out-and-back across a dam, and it was pretty miserable once temperatures got into the 80′s/90′s. I ran almost 6 minutes slower than my goal time, but it seemed like other people had the same issue as well. I somehow still managed to finish a minute faster than last year, even with a slow run time, but it was the worst I’ve ever felt after a race.

Congrats to everyone on Sport Factory who finished such a tough race today!

Great job Katie! I just went on a super hot run too and the heat is just a killer! Shows what a great athlete you are for pushing through those really tough conditions.
