Tell us about your race (limit 500 words)…: As everyone has said, the swim was in tough conditions. I did the Oly in 18:45 last year, sprint in 20:07 this year.
I settled in for a nice, pancake flat bike ride. Downwind was 26-27mph and into was 20-21mph. Saw Andi Dunlop on the bike and she was flying. I got out of T2 right behind Byron Milton and he set a crazy pace. I was just hanging on hoping the half training kicked in. Felt good at the turn-around so I tried to pick it up a bit. I was fortunate to be able to keep that pace until the end and hang onto my position.
I felt really good coming off of St. Croix and this course’s lack of topography and very mild weather this year suited my strengths. Easily my best finish to date.
Big thank you to Georgia Multisports and all of the sponsors and volunteers. The Publix Pavilion at the end was first class. Nothing like getting done with a race and walking over to a Breyer’s booth and being told to take as many as you want.
