Jim Heebner
Age: 33
Personal: I grew up in Pleasanton, CA and moved to GA in 1999. Married to my wonderful and supportive wife for 10 years as of March 18th, 2010. I work in a middle school as a paraprofessional. My job is to provide assistance in the general education environment to students that have special needs. I started in this professional three years ago after working in the distribution industry for 15 years. Although middle school aged kids can be a handful, it is a truly rewarding job.
Athletic experience/accomplishments: There was not a day that went by when I was young where I was not playing multiple sports. Baseball, basketball, football, soccer, golf, dirt bike riding, and street hockey was where most of my time was spent.
I migrated to rock climbing and skiing during college and at one point found myself dropping out, moving to Colorado, and living out of my car so that I could list climbing and skiing as my full time job.
I found triathlon in 2008 and have fallen in love with the lifestyle. I love every day of training and look forward to every workout. I have always been on a bike, but I just learned how to swim in late 2008 and began to take running more seriously at that time as well. Since then I have involved myself in several events and “raced” a couple with “personal” success.
2010 Goals: I will be at St. Croix as my destination race, but have no time goals for this one. I will be racing the Turtle Crawl sprint, Macon (R&R) sprint, and Peachtree Sprint with the goal of executing my training plans.
The last half of my season will be getting ready for IM Florida. Being my first race at this distance my goal is to nail my nutrition because I know my fitness will be there.
A general goal is to keep mentally strong when the going gets tough.
