Rod Norton
Age: 50
Personal: Married with two children, one post-college and one junior. My wife(Cydney) and I live in downtown Alpharetta. I am in management at a tower company in the telecommunications industry and enjoy a lot of different activities including backpacking, hiking, kayaking, mtn. biking, music, cycling, growing vegetables, etc. Cydney is a vegetarian, hence the growing vegetables!
Athletic Accomplishments: I played amateur soccer for many years and then tried adventure racing in the early 2000. With friends and family, we competed in several southeastern adventure races mostly 12 hour or shorter races. In 2004, I attempted my first sprint triathlon and was the last person out of the water, when I finally came to, I was riding my rigid steel mtn. bike into a gravel lot and was told to “hurry up and start running or I was going to be last”. In 2006, I finished my first IM Florida with my daughter who at the time was a senior at the University of Georgia. Since then I have finished a handful of 70.3 and IM’s and needless to say, struggled on a few. I am looking forward to hiring a coach this year!
2010 Goals: My goals and objectives in 2010 are to become more efecient in all sports and to not consistently train to exhaustion. If I end up with faster race times, even better.
Dream goal, would be to qualify for Kona, however I have to be realistic and recognize this is probably genetically impossible……it is a dream.
