Judith Garrard
Name: Judith Garrard
Age: 64
Coach: Chris Zimmer
Personal: : I am married to Michael and we have a daughter Kim and grandson Connor (who is 16 and races in the Mid-Atlantic Region). I have been active in a wide range of sports all my life and despite the fact we lived in San Diego for nearly 20 years, I never tried triathlon because I was intimidated by the swim. In July of 2007, I attended one of my grandson’s races and really enjoyed the atmosphere and energy of the event and decided I would give triathlon a try. In January of 2008, I signed up for swim lessons, registered for Iron Girl and started running and cycling. In June (to my complete surprise) I finished second in my age group at Iron Girl I did 3 more sprints in 2008 and 6 in 2009. I really enjoy the sport of triathlon – the training, the races and making new friends who share my interests.

2010 Goals: 2010 is the beginning of my two year plan. I am moving up to Olympic distance races this season and plan to do 3 to 4 races including the Age Group Nationals in September. My short term goal is to finish in the top 10 in my age group at Tuscaloosa. My long range goal is to compete in the Miami Ironman 70.3 in October of 2011.
Inspiration: My husband Michael without whose love, support and encouragement I could not follow my dream.
