mandiAge: 30

Personal: Growing up in the Atlanta area, I was involved in dance and swim. In I completed my first triathlon, Acworth Women’s Tri, in August 2006 and have never looked back. I have a wonderful support team in my husband, Ted and his three children, Myles (11), Hannah (9) and Maddie (5) as well as my extended family. I have a Marketing degree from the University of Georgia. I am the Marketing & Promotion Director for Killer Creek Harley-Davidson and also work with my husband in our photography business, D&F Photography. (And no, I don’t ride my own motorcycle- I have a nice bike though- ha!)

The sport has become quite a family affair. Ted has participated in several runs and tris with me and though I lose my biggest cheerleader and photographer during these races, I’m so proud of him. Myles and Hannah completed triathlons in 2008 and 2009 and Hannah plans to continue in 2010.

At my first race, I stood in line behind a sweet woman with 72 (her age) on her calf and spoke to her about her experiences in the sport. She sweetly told me, “Honey, if I can do this, you can do it too.” Though I do not know who this lady was, her words will remain with me forever. “I can do this.” I love the camaraderie and support that this sport yields, but am also driven by the competition. I’m hands down my toughest critic.

Athletic Accomplishments:

2006: Cohutta Springs Int’l- 3rd AG
2007: Callaway Gardens Sprint- 1st AG & 4th OA; Foothills Sprint- 3rd AG; Callaway Gardens Int’l- 3rd AG; Emerald Point Sprint- 3rd AG
2008: Foothills Sprint- 1st AG; Callaway Gardens Sprint- 1st AG; Peachtree City Spring- 3rd AG; Emerald Point Sprint- improved more than 7 minutes from ‘06

2009: Foothills Sprint -1st AG, Peachtree City Sprint-2nd AG, Acworth Sprint- 3rd AG

2010 Goals: I will continue my focus on sprint distance events and I want to improve as an athlete, including improved placements and faster times. In 2010, I plan to participate in the Peachtree City, Iron Girl, Acworth and Emerald Point sprints as well as various 5K events- always a fun time!
