Age: 43

Personal: : Originally from Charleston, South Carolina I graduated from Presbyterian College (SC) with a degree in Political Science. I have been in state government now for over 20 years and currently work as a Regional Director with the Georgia Department of Human Services. Mary Beth and I have been married now for 20 years. She has been incredibly supportive of my multi-sport lifestyle, and has completed 2 triathlons herself in 2009. I have two children. Kristin (age 16), and Boone (age 12). Both are involved in running sports at our local school.

Athletic experience/accomplishments: 2010 will only be my fourth season of triathlon, so I still feel like I have a great deal to learn about the sport. I come mainly from a running background. In 2006 I probably ran around 30 road races (everything from 5K to Half Marathons) and came to a point where I was burned out and beat down. In 2007 I decided to move to multi-sport and have found triathlon to be very intense, but also very rewarding. While the training hours can be long, the multi-sport aspect seems to be easier on the body than single-sport running. I completed 9 races that first year, and haven’t looked back!

2010 Goals: My main objective for 2010 is to complete my first Ironman (I will be racing Ironman Florida), and improve my racing at the half-iron distance. I will be racing Ironman Augusta 70.3 again in 2010, and hope to PR at this distance at this race. In addition to Ironman Florida and Ironman Augusta 70.3, I will be racing the Gulf Coast Half, and a handful of Olympic and Sprint distance races throughout the season.

Inspiration: Seeing those who are less fortunate than me accomplish great things in life….
