Tell us about your race (limit 500 words)…: This was the first triathlon I ever won back in 2008, so coming back to this race as the “defending champion” was a new experience for me. Seems like a lot more people knew me at this race than any race I’ve done previously. I was able to shave off a full five and a half minutes off my time from last year. The cool weather probably helped a little with that.

Swim felt about the same as last year, just less fog. On the bike I couldn’t keep my heart rate up because my legs were a bit tired (I’m training through this race), but that lower HR on the bike seemed to help me on the run because I ran a 37:45 which is a great run for me on this rolling course. Imagine that… if you practice your running you’ll become a faster runner.

From here I’m looking to end my season by blowing up at the Lake Lanier Island triathlon. It will be my only sprint of the season, so I’d better make it a good one.

AWESOME, Sam! You smoked that course from start to finish– way to go.

Ditto on what Amy said, but a specific “great job” on that run time since I know how hard you’ve been working on it! Good luck at Emerald Pointe!
