Team SF Women Demonstrate Their Might at Iron Girl
The Aflac Iron Girl Atlanta Triathlon boasted an impressive pro start list and one of the biggest races Atlanta has ever seen. Around 1000 women came to Lake Lanier on Sunday, June 28, 2009 to race the 1/3 mile swim, 18 mile bike, and 3 mile run course.
Sport Factory Elite Team member Kris Kester returned to defend her amateur win from last year, although she knew the competition would be tough, especially among her teammates. At 44 years old, however, she showed that she is still a force to be reckoned with. Kester displayed her consistency across all three sports to clinch the amateur win yet again, and in convincing fashion; Kester beat the 2nd amateur by almost a minute.
Kat Tindol took 3rd among the amateurs, again using her strength on the bike to give her a nice cushion on the run and a podium spot. Kat’s stepson, Russell, was a patient at the Aflac Cancer Center at Scottish Rite, and participating in this event was very special for her.
Sport Factory Junior Elite Team member, Katie June, ran her way into the 4th overall amateur position, and causing quite a few jaws to drop when athletes and spectators alike realized that this speed demon is only 16 years old! Katie is coached by Sport Factory Coach Holly Marzetti.
Lisa Marshall finished 8th.
Congratulations to our Sport Factory women who had a very strong showing at such a competitive local event!
