Tell us about your race (limit 250 words)…: Going into the race, I knew that I was up against very strong competition, but I was trying to defend my win from a year ago. Jason Schott, the defending U.S. National Age Group champion, and Sam Morgan, who is planning on racing professionally next year were both on the starting list. There were others to watch out for, but everyone has their own race to run. I was glad that my wife Jaydene was able to support and cheer me on, knowing that she is 4 weeks from having our baby. I think that the swim was long for everyone due to the current and possibly being pushed off course. I came out of the water with about 10 ahead on the bike. I quickly moved into 3rd place on the bike within the first 5 miles and maintained my place until coming into T2 with Ken Brown. I was down 5 minutes on Sam going into the run. My goal was to bring back as much time as possible on the run. The weather was ideal, especially being exposed on the dam midway on the run. I crossed the finish line 3rd and kept the spot with the time trial start. With the competition, I was happy with my race. I have always enjoyed West Point Lake; Jim Rainey always puts on a well run event. I was glad to see team Sport Factory in full force out on the course.
