Amy Kloner – Eagleman 70.3
Race and Date: Eagleman 70.3 – June 14, 2009
Race Placement/Time/Qualification: 8th Pro – 4:30:02
Tell us about your race (limit 250 words)…: All that training on (FLAT!) Columns Drive was not because I love seeing the same 5 miles repeatedly. It was for Eagleman 70.3, a flat-as-a-pancake course and a very well-run event up in Cambridge, MD.
I seem to be quite proficient at selecting races this year with scary start lists! It was yet another very competitive field. My swim actually was an improvement for me (32:16), but even a PR for me is not good enough to race in the water with the women at this level. I was 2nd to last pro out of the swim (13th) and got right to work on the bike. I had the 2nd fastest split of the day (23.36mph) behind Natascha Badmann, which was good enough to put me into 4th place going into T2. THAT was very exciting!!!! My run was close to a PR for me off the bike (6:55 pace), but unfortunately lost a couple spots in the last mile. I finished 8th in a strong field and I gave everything I had. That’s a good day!
Another big thank you to my very talented coach, Matt Russ, for preparing me to race at a level I never would have expected. I can’t wait to see what else we can accomplish!
