Tell us about your race (limit 250 words)…: Race morning I found out the swim was canceled for everyone excluding the pros. Even though my brain knew this was devastating to my race I did a good job of ignoring my brain until about mile 4 of the run when some contempt for the slow swimmers in front of me started brewing.
Because of the 2 second apart time trial start the bike ended up like that of an ITU race. If the rules were enforced as they are stated in the rulebook about 30 of us would have been disqualified. It was literally impossible to follow the no drafting and position rules. This year 20 elite amateurs went 26.0 MPH or faster on the bike (26.8 myself) whereas last year not one elite amateur broke 26 MPH. My new bike performed wonderfully at my first race of the season. Thank you Roswell Bikes.
I ran just under 37 minutes at 5:57 pace. Less than a year ago at turtle crawl I ran 7:09 pace on an equally flat course. I hope to drop another 20 ~ 30 seconds per mile in another calendar year.
I look forward to working on my run with Brett and getting some miles in before the Rock’n'Roll man 70.3.
Despite the disappointing outcome I gained invaluable race experience and look forward to the event next year.
