Coach: Matt Russ

Personal: During the daytime, I am a legal recruiter, but in the early hours of the day, and late into the night, I am a triathlete.

I  compete in triathlon as I love participating in sport with others.  My racing career has literally led me around the world, racing both domestically and abroad. . From east coast to west, from Mexico to Australia, I have raced every distance of triathlon, and like all multi sport athletes, I feel very fortunate to have enjoy the opportunities that this sport has afforded me.

I am also a coach with the Sport Factory. I believe that building fitness is all about applying the right type and the right amount of stress, with the right amount of rest, to achieve peak performance.  To that regard, I believe that one of the most important roles of a coach is to ‘trim the fat’ from the training plan, and to focus each training session to serve a specific purpose.  Additionally, I believe in taking a balanced approach to multi sport, as our participation in the sport is just one aspect of our amazingly complex and busy lives, and getting the most out of every training session is essential to building fitness.

2008 Hogpen Hill Climb 17k: 1:10:48, 3rd AG, 16th overall
